I just happened upon the discovery of this celebration when I opened my browser. It was on Yahoo's front page:
National Punctuation Day. It's even a trending topic on Twitter. I guess I'm not the only language arts-obsessed geek out there, huh? Personally, I think it's about time we have our own day. I mean, what with all that
Pi Day hoopla...
Of course, I had to visit the site. I was excited to find a list of things I could do to celebrate that included sleeping late, going out for coffee, taking a nap, looking for punctuation errors in newspapers and storefront signs, and even talking with the store owners to advise them of their erroneous (pun totally intended) ways. I even learned that I can buy myself a gift of The Elements of Style. Who needs Christmas? This is the perfect day.
The page offers some excellent references, from books to websites that offer up grammar and punctuation advice. You will also find resources for teaching punctuation to children, classroom posters for teachers, and other various grammar-related things.
So, how will you celebrate National Punctuation Day? After I'm finished with my day's articles, I'm going to celebrate with two bagels. I'll arrange them to look like a colon before I eat them.
Happy Punctuation Day!

This is great! I hope my children's teachers remembered to celebrate!
I was excited to learn that my stepson's high school English teacher remembered. He wasn't as thrilled. :-)
Cute write and now we need some specifics - some of us have been around long enough to go through CHANGE- now it is ok to use a preposition to end a sentence with.... and how about the punctuation inside quotes? They changed all the rules on that one too - Hope you write one with the new basics in it! Meantime I have library books on hold and need to read for sure. Marijo (Mary Jo is how it is pronounced)
Thank you for responding. I am actually working on a series of writing tips for parents and teachers. ;-)
